Google Pigeon Focuses On Local Businesses

Posted at Aug 25, 2014 10:41:32 AM by Taylor De Luca | Share

In most cases, Google algorithm changes are minor and include 500-600 updates per year; however, there are occasional major updates that also take place. One of the latest Google algorithm updates is known as the Pigeon, which released on July 24, 2014. This algorithm drastically changed local search results as Google attempts to help aid local businesses, and transform into an artificial intelligence.

Of course, if your business is not listed on Google, and has no Google Plus Page, Google may not even realize that your business exists. This is something every business owner should be aware of as it is a huge difference maker in the amount of web traffic and foot traffic that you receive.

After creating a page on Google, this will give your business an edge over your competition which may not be listed. Some things that may help increase your company’s visibility in Google's eye include:

  • Increase presence in “white hat” directories
  • Develop presence on social media sites, especially Google Plus
  • Post to these social media sites daily
  • Optimize your website based on Google's SEO Guidelines

While there are hundreds of Google algorithm updates each year, the Google Pigeon update is likely the most important for local businesses around the world.
