The Anatomy of a Super Blog Post

You can do it! You can make blogging part of your digital content strategy. It doesn't take superhuman powers to write blog post content. However, it does take some time and research. The good news is, if you do it right, your business can look like a superhero to your ideal customers.

Here are some blogging tips to help you elevate your business to superhero status in the eyes of your ideal customers:

1. Find A Mission

Every superhero has a mission or a purpose. So should your blog post. Don't just write blog post content for the sake of having a new blog post. Think about what you want to achieve from your blogging efforts, and approach each new blog post with a digital content strategy in mind.

2. Embrace an Adoring Public

Think about your existing customers. If you don't have existing customers, think about your ideal customers. Get into the who, what, where, why and how of those customers. Who are they (e.g., age, sex, etc.)? Where are they (e.g., location, career, etc.)? What challenges do they face? Why would they purchase your product or service? How should you approach those customers (e.g., message, format, etc.)?

3. Develop a Backstory

Any superhero worth his/her salt has a compelling backstory - one with fears and obstacles he/she has overcome. Your fears and obstacles are the objections your ideal customers might have about purchasing your product or service. Dive deeper into the psyche of those customers. Think about what motivates them. What are their dreams and aspirations? What are their pain points? How can your product or service make their lives easier? 

4. Chalk an Outline

If you're blogging for leads, at some point you'll want to acquire contact information from your blog visitors. This opens the door for you to reach out, build a relationship and ultimately save the day with your product or service.

An easy way to obtain contact information is to offer for download a free piece of extra-valuable content - such as a helpful checklist, blog audit template or an informative eBook - in exchange for key details like a name and email address or phone number. (Bear in mind, your free offer should be worthwhile enough to justify sharing this information.)

5. Thicken the Plot

To support your free offer, you'll want to write blog post content in the same vein. Cover a related topic, approach the same subject matter from a unique perspective, or discuss a particular aspect of the subject matter in greater detail. By doing so, you'll attract blog visitors who are already interested in the content of your free offer - and those visitors will be more likely to share their contact information with you in exchange for a download.

6. Get Bit by the Content-Crawling Spiders, Man

Don't forget, you're also blogging for traffic. Traffic raises awareness and ultimately gets more sales. In addition to posting quality content, you need to ensure your blog is optimized for discovery by search engines. You want to be sure people are finding your business in as many ways as possible, right? That's why search engine optimization should be one of the superpowers in your digital content strategy

7. Realize Radioactive Results

When you write blog post content, your work doesn't stop when the post goes live. You need to promote your blog. Make sure you have social sharing buttons at the beginning or end of each blog post. Share your blog posts yourself using your various social media accounts. Send email notifications to your contacts when new blog posts are available. Showcase multiple blog posts in monthly e-newsletters sent to opt-in subscribers. In other words, spread the word about your blog to get the best results.
