As the Beatles so eloquently sang it, ”All you need is love." This is also true when it comes to social media. In a time when it seems that the fun of social media is being invaded by negative political posts and fake news, it is important to make your social media followers feel warm and cozy. (And I'm not talking about the heat coming from their computers, tablets, or devices!) Here are four ways you can show your social media super fans how much you love them.
1. Share the Love
One of the easiest ways to show your appreciation to your social media followers is to share fan-generated content. Most social media management platforms allow you to follow your hashtags, which make it easy to find them. Whether it’s a mention or a fan used your hashtag, be sure to like the content and share it on your company page. And don’t forget to tag the fan to give credit for the image! (Pro tip: Using an app like Repost allows you share an Instagram post while also crediting the creator.)
2. Love them back
They’ve been following you quite some time. They like your posts and leave comments on a regular basis. But are you returning the love on social media? Be sure to follow your fans and like or comment on their posts -- even the ones that don’t include your brand!
If your social media followers post vacation pictures, respond with something like, “Looks like fun. I’ll have to add that to my bucket list." Did they post pictures of food? Tell them the food looks delicious. Show that you’re listening to them. It’s nice to be heard, and a fan who is heard is one who is more likely to keep engaging with your brand.
3. Personalize your engagement
Engage with your admirers. Do they leave comments? Write responses and be sure to include their names! Don’t use an automated response -- personalize your replies and make them fun! Spark up conversations and build relationships. It's called social media, after all.
4. An unexpected gift
Is someone gushing about your brand on social media? Send that fan a little surprise, such as a coupon or a free sample of your product. They'll likely be so delighted that they will post about it on social media, and thus give your brand even more exposure.
The same can be said about someone posting on social media about a bad experience. A gift can make a bad thing good, and they will appreciate you taking action to resolve the issue.
There’s no better way to beat the algorithm changes than to get people talking about your brand organically. By showing your social media followers and super fans some love, you can inspire conversations and create brand loyalty.
