How to Measure Reach on Social Media

Posted at Oct 11, 2018 1:25:00 PM by THAT Agency | Share

The journey to conversion starts with reaching the customer. It seems like that happens more via social media these days than it does anywhere else, and reach is one social media KPI you'll certainly want to track if you're marketing via Facebook, Twitter, or any other social media platform.

The idea of social media reach just means the number of users you come in contact with. You can think about reach in terms of your posts, your campaigns, and your account as a whole. So, how do you measure this all important social media KPI? Take a look.

Look at Your Follower Count

The follower count metric has gotten a bad rap over the last few years, and for good reason. Some businesses thought follower count would translate directly to profits as they began down the path of social media marketing. That's not true, but what is true is that follower count does help you decide how many followers and fans you are connecting with on each platform, and that's a good measure of your social media reach.

Consider Your Impressions

Impressions are the number of times your post shows up in someone's feed. That doesn't, though, mean how many users you're reaching because an impression can show up multiple times for a single user thanks to posts and reposts. It's a good social media KPI of how many people could connect with a brand, not necessarily how many people are connecting with a brand. That said, strong numbers are beneficial.

Measure Your Web Traffic

How many people are headed to your site from your social media posts? It's a crucial step in understanding how to move people from followers to customers. If you're not seeing the increase you want, it's time to reevaluate your campaign and make some changes.

Keep an Eye on Share of Voice

If people are talking around you or about you, you're improving your overall share of voice. This metric looks at how the conversation around your company compares to that of other competing companies. You want customers talking about you on a regular basis, and if you're not a conversation generator, but a brand within your industry is, it’s time to boost the volume on your voice.
