Top Digital Marketing Trends in 2023

Posted at Nov 8, 2022 8:00:00 AM by THAT Agency | Share

The what and why of digital marketing are relatively clear and simple. It is an approach that promotes brands, products, and services online. It encompasses devices from desktops to smartphones and avenues from email marketing to content marketing to social media.

The how… though… can get much more complex. Technology, tools, and techniques have evolved and are much more advanced. Keeping up to date (keeping up to the minute) can be a challenge.

Let’s focus on the big digital marketing trends you want to keep an eye on this coming year.

5 Big Digital Marketing Trends 2023

What digital marketing trends should be on your radar as we gear up for 2023? Our top five:

  1. Visual Search

Search continues to evolve. In addition to voice search (Hey Siri, what’s the weather?), we are seeing an increase in visual search. Rather than type or speak a query into a search engine, we can upload an image and get results regarding the picture.

Want to identify a plant in your yard? A tree in your neighborhood? A great pair of boots you saw walking down the street? You’ve got it. Your camera is now a search tool.

To capture this traffic (which will only grow), ensure you integrate high-quality images onto your website and throughout your online presence. Be sure to add the following:

  • Descriptive keywords
  • Image sitemap
  • Descriptive file names for images
  • “Alt tags” for all images

Ninety percent of the information transmitted to our brains is visual; this is how many of us process information, and we can leverage this as brands to meet our business-building goals.

  1. Real-Time Messaging Platforms

Today’s consumers are unsatisfied with static content, and when they have a question, issue, or problem, they want to reach out and get a response ASAP. And by ASAP, we mean immediately! Waiting 24-48 business hours to reply is just not feasible. Real-time messaging platforms cater to the instant-gratification crowd (which is pretty much all of us!).

One option is utilizing hybrid chatbots. Most consumers (68%) like chatbots because they can deliver quick answers to simple questions. A hybrid approach involves integrating chatbots with human representatives to more effectively and efficiently responding to customers.

Video is another option. The majority (82%) of content consumed online is video. Brands can use this to increase visibility, generate leads, and, of course, support customers. Ideas include Q&A videos, how-tos, tutorials, and reviews. Be sure to include a call to action (CTA) in your video, so your customers know what steps to take next.

  1. Influencer Marketing

Yes, this is still a “thing.” When done effectively, it can bring in over $5 for every $1 spent and leverage the perennial power of word-of-mouth advertising. Even small brands are using influencer marketing to reach their audience and expand awareness and interest in their products/services.

Influencers have the attention of the people who can help grow your business, and 84% of consumers trust peers more than brands (at least until they form a relationship). Influencers typically have more peers than “fans,” and the right person can make all the difference.

That’s the key: working with influencers who are relevant to your audience. It needn’t be a mega-celebrity, either. “Micro-influencers” can be just as or more effective in achieving your unique goals.

  1. Advanced Analytics

For 2023, Google will roll out Google Analytics 4, or GA4. It is an updated, revamped version of the well-loved Universal Analytics platform, which will be phased out.

With GA4, you can link to Google Optimize, Google Merchant Center, and BigQuery (for free), add custom reports, and access anomaly detection, predictive analysis, attribution models, and many other helpful functions.

Analytics is a “trend” for 2023 – but it has been and will remain one of the most critical aspects of a marketing strategy. If you are not measuring, tracking, analyzing, and optimizing, you are missing out on opportunities to leverage your strengths and overcome areas for improvement.

  1. Digital Marketing Agencies

Regarding B2C and B2B digital marketing, 2023 is all about accessing the expertise, resources, and reach of the right partner. Digital marketing has evolved at a lightning-fast pace and continues to change. It has grown to encompass specialized technology and tools, data-based techniques, and proactive strategies that empower brands to reach consumers who are ever more inundated with messaging. This is a way to break through the noise and make an impact.

Digital marketing agencies can guide you in the following:

  • Identifying and clarifying goals and establishing benchmarks for success
  • Creating and implementing effective marketing strategies
  • Developing reports and metrics against which to track campaign progress
  • Generating greater website traffic, leads, conversions, and sales
  • Putting the latest tools and technology to work for your bottom line-building objectives

Do you have time to devote to digital marketing? Do you have the capacity to hire a full-time team? Do you have the expertise to integrate new tools and techniques into a sound strategy? If not, engaging the right agency can make all the difference.
