Why You Shouldn't Buy Facebook Likes.

We have all had those instances where we might have a great story or idea and want to share it with our friends. We reach for our cellphones and frantically call or text everyone who we think might care. Then that excitement turns into grumpiness when we are forwarded to voice mail and nobody returns our texts. THIS is exactly what you are doing to yourself when you buy Facebook Likes.

Let’s be clear, when I say, “buy likes” I am not talking about a paid Facebook Advertising solution. I am talking about one of the thousands of websites that offer services that guarantee to get you fans for a certain price. No matter how much they promise to get “real people” to like your page, it simply won’t work because THEY AREN'T REAL PEOPLE! These companies create thousands of junk accounts using stock images and have them like your page. Sure, it might give your page the appearance of a big fan following, but what about engagements? There is no point on having big numbers if nobody is engaging with you. Buying Likes is extremely detrimental for your Facebook campaign as engagement is at the heart of the EdgeRank Algorithm (which dictates how many people see your content). It doesn't matter how great of a sale you have if you are directing it at hollow numbers and not an actionable fan base. Not only will your engagement rate go down the hole, so will your excitement with social media.

The initial launch of a fan page can be one of the more frustrating parts of getting into social media marketing. You know you have a great product or service but just don’t have the numbers to begin showing ROI. So how do you get the ball rolling? DON’T BUY LIKES! Consider investing a small amount into Facebook’s Advertising solutions to get that initial pop. By intelligently using the available targeting options, you can begin to attract people who are interested in what you have to offer. Yes, it costs a bit of money. Yes, seeing the number of Likes grow might be slower. However, you want activity and engagement, not just numbers. Investing a bit of money, creativity, and time will take you further than buying likes.

Where would YOU rather be: A small party where people are talking and laughing, or a massive gala that is silent?
